Successful support in implementing the public cloud strategy

With atrete, you can achieve secure and scalable cloud operations in the regulated financial market.

aity AG, a subsidiary of Berner Kantonalbank headquartered in Liebefeld, develops and operates scalable, standardized software and service offerings for small and medium-sized Swiss retail banks. Around 300 employees work in the areas of ICT operations, architecture, security & data, development & application management, and finance & services. aity AG is one of the key technology partners in the Swiss retail banking ecosystem and continuously pursues the goal of combining innovation, security, and efficiency.

The public cloud is also becoming increasingly important in the financial market—especially when it comes to flexibility, scalability, and modern IT operating models. aity AG had already developed a comprehensive public cloud strategy that takes both technical and organizational developments into account and is to be implemented in four transformation phases by 2030.
The challenge was to translate this ambitious strategy into operational reality in a highly regulated environment. In addition to technical specifications, regulatory requirements, data and information security, governance, compliance, and the development of internal competencies played a central role. The goal was to enable the organization to use cloud technologies independently, securely, and efficiently in the future.

atrete chose a structured, methodically supported approach for implementing the organizational and technical strategy elements. The basis for this was the Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework for Azure (CAF) for organizational establishment and the Microsoft Azure Well-Architected Framework for technical implementation.
In order to enable the organization to gain real experience at an early stage, the project followed an MVP approach. This allowed concrete projects and services to be tested at an early stage and to provide productive added value. At the same time, a continuous learning process developed within the teams.

atrete guided aity AG through the definition of technical, organizational, commercial, regulatory, and legal requirements. Together, they established an initial cloud foundation that encompasses governance structures such as DevSecOps organizations as well as security, compliance, and architecture standards. At the same time, atrete provided support in program and project management, infrastructure development, and software development to ensure that the strategy was implemented on a sound technical basis.

With the completion of the first two transformation horizons, the first public cloud solutions have already been successfully transferred to productive operation. aity AG now has a solid foundation on which to continue its cloud transformation independently and sustainably.
atrete contributed a broadly based role and competence profile that had a significant impact on the success of the project:

  • Enterprise Architect – strategic direction of cloud transformation
  • Business Architect – Designing organizational frameworks
  • Compliance Architect – regulatory embedding of all architecture and operating models
  • GRC Consultant – Governance, Risk, and Compliance Management
  • Cyber Security Consultant – Derivation of security-related requirements
  • Cloud Security Architect – Building secure cloud controls and protection mechanisms
  • Cloud Solutions Architect – technical implementation of the Cloud Foundation
  • Project management – operational control and coordination of work streams
  • Program management – overall management, stakeholder management, and strategic management

This cross-functional collaboration resulted in a robust, regulatory-compliant, and future-proof cloud foundation.

In the next phases of transformation, aity AG will build on the foundations it has laid and take further steps toward becoming a fully established cloud service provider. The focus will be on further developing technical and organizational cloud expertise in order to ensure long-term secure, efficient, and resilient operations. The journey toward becoming a fully cloud-enabled organization will continue iteratively and strengthen aity AG's competitiveness in the long term.
